As Principal Contractors we undertook:

The co-ordinaton of M+E contractors, design development with M+E Engineers, interrogation of general house services with specialist lighting control.

Development of structural works, problem solving on site in conjunction with structural engineer.  Co-ordination with M+E service installation and design development of both M+E and structure to suit nature and constraints of building fabric.

Reconfiguring building to make fully DDA-compliant, including new passenger lift.

Close liaison with conservation architects on conservation, repair and renovation of the structure, particularly historic timber roof construction, using carpentry skills as employed when building was first constructed, so entirely appropriate with the fabric.

Heavy structural co-ordination element with structural engineer on reinforcement of original structure in a sympathetic manner.

Offering advice and guidance in general construction, particularly finishes using our expertise on carpentry and lime work.

Reconstruction of original joinery – stairs, panelling, doors, frames, windows, employing some outside joinery and carving specialists, but with the majority of the joinery being carried out on site in a temporary workshop by the joiners who also fitted it all.  The project gave an opportunity to joinery apprentices to gain valuable experience and several had involvement from start to finish.

Using our wealth of experience in conservation and restoration of heritage buildings built up over many years at a management level and a skilled operative level helped to guide the project toward the best quality and most cost effective solutions, forging strong relationships with client and design team.

In addition our strong commitment to aftercare ensured that works in the defect period were dealt with effectively, with minimum disruption to the operation of the house.
